Discover the history of Migration in Southampton

The 400 year anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower and Speedwell from Southampton is a time for reflection and so we at the Fanclub have pulled together a timeline to highlight some of the other major migrations that have impacted Southampton and form part of its history and heritage over the last two thousand years.

Beginning in AD43 when the Romans arrived in Britian creating a base in the Bitterne peninsula, we’ve pulled out 25 key dates that have shaped Southampton helping to create the multiculural city where over 150 languages are being used today.

As well as the timeline we’ve pulled together lots of resources and places you can go for further reading.

We hope you find it useful.

You can view and download the timeline here: Migration Timeline
